Hiran Minar (the deer tomb) was build by emperor Jahangir in 1606 in the honor of his pet antelope named “Mansiraj” mean light of the mind. It is Located in Sheikhupura 40 km away from Lahore. The Hiran Minar is also near to the Sheikhupura fort, both sites are accessible from Lahore via M2 motorway.
Structure of Minar
The structure of this Minar is very beautiful and unique. It is 30 meters tall and 10 meters wide at its base, build by Jahangir but the octagonal pavilion was built during the region of Shah Jahan. It consists of a large, square water tank in its center, brick ramps were build to provide access to water for royal pet animals. water cover this structure from all side that increases the beauty of it. It is accessible by a beautifully arched stone bridge that leads directly from the pavilion to the tower. The Boat ride in the water tank was another wonderful experience.

Reason to build Minar
The reason behind the construction of Minar was the memory of his beloved antelope according to the historians. One day Jahangir went on hunting with his friends he was hunting a few other deers and set the target on it, unfortunately, he killed his own deer pet Mansiraj mistakenly that makes Jahangir into lifetime shock. He built a huge tower which today is known as “Hiran Minar.
This was a symbol of the love Emperor Jahangir had for his pet. The life of Mughals is orbited around love and affection. It is a very rare example of love towards a pet. This symbol of love will keep a deer alive forever. After the death of beloved deer, hunting was prohibited and the ground was changed into a safe land. It’s another act of love.
This Minar is very unique in design and has a different reason for construction. This beautiful monument brings back to the time of emperor Jahangir.
