Gorakh Hill Station is situated on one of the highest and coldest plateaus of Sindh, in Dadu district. It is at an altitude of 5,688 feet in the Khirthar mountain Range that makes the border between Sindh and Baluchistan provinces in Pakistan.
The distance from Karachi to Gorakh is approximately 500 kilometers and 94 km from Dadu. You have required 4×4 Jeeps to reach the top of Gorakh hill.
History of Gorakh Hill
There is a big confusion about the historical background and the name of Gorakh. Different opinions have been given about the origin of the hill station. It is believed that due to medieval Hindu saint “Gorakhnath”, it is named Gorakh, who used to wander around this region. While other stories define him as a Buddhist Yogi.
Locally it is said that Gorakh is derived from the Balochi word “Gurkh” which is a perversion of the Persian word “Gurg” which means “wolf” because Gorakh hill and its surroundings were the habitats of wolves.
