Faiz Mahal | The Richest Archeological Treasure

Many magnificent tombs, buildings, and palaces have been built in history that leave their mark, one such example is the Faiz Mahal in Khairpur Sindh. Khairpur is a district and historically rich city of Sindh. It was an independent state before the formation of Pakistan and merged with Pakistan in 1955.

History of Faiz Mahal

Faiz Mahal is a great monument to the glorious past that was the symbol of power. It was built in 1896 by Mir Sohrab Khan Talpur as the sovereign court for the Talpur monarchs of the Khairpur dynasty and later it turned into the royal residence. Now Faiz Mahal serves as the home of the last Talpur monarch HH Mir Ali Murad Khan Talpur (1933) and his son’s Prince Abbas Raza Talpur and Prince Mehdi Raza Talpur.

Mir Sohrab Khan ruled over Khairpur Estate in 1786 and he was followed by many Talpur Mirs. Talpur ruled over Khairpur from 1783 to 1955 after defeating the Kalhora Dynasty. They build forts and castles to consolidate their power. Kot Diji Fort in Khairpur was also built by Mir Sohrab Khan Talpur.

Features about Faiz Mahal

Faiz Mahal is famous for its Mughal-style architecture and artwork. It is one of the most beautiful buildings of Sindh. It’s also known as Lakhi Mahal because at that time its construction cost was one lakh or 100 thousands. The total area of the palace is 12 acres and has taken 13 years to build. When you enter there is the main hall of the palace that was used to make important decisions and official functions. It consists of Golden chairs, a silver sofa, red carpets, and portraits of famous rulers hang on the walls. You will also find handwritten letters, signed treaties, wedding pictures of the royal family, weapons used by the rulers, and many rare items from that period. Great effort has been made to preserve the historical heritage. Looking at all these things reminds you of the time when it had the status of a state.

Faiz Mahal has 36 rooms with a dining area and waiting rooms. There are stuffed deer heads mounted on the walls along the entrance. Towards the front of the palace, there is a vast and lush green garden, with flowers lining the edges. There are also 2 cannons in front of the castle.

The palace does not look centuries old, it has been carefully preserved. It still retains its glory that makes it the famous landmark of Sindh.
