The magical Lake Saif Ul Malook

The lake Saif ul Malook is a magical lake that attracts many people due to its serene beauty. It is also known as the lake of fairies. The lake is between the massive mountains, which is an example of beauty. A trip to Naran kagahan valleys is not complete without seeing it. I’ve been listening to it since I was a child. When it comes to the beauty of northern areas, the first thing that comes to mind is the Saif- ul-Malook Lake. It is one of the most visiting sights in Pakistan. The lake is placed above the tree line.

Saif ul Malook Lake is the fifth best tourist destination in Pakistan ranked by the Guardians.  It is one of the highest lakes in Pakistan at an elevation of 3,224 m (10,578 feet) above sea level.

This lake looks like a bowl shape of water and contains multiple glaciers. It is a source of the Kunhar River. The lake has a large eco-diversity. It is home to many species of blue-green algae, a variety of water-plants, and a rare brown trout fish that are also found in the lake. Trout fishing is very popular in Kaghan and Narran.

Depth of the Lake

The depth of Saif-ul-Malook Lake is still unknown. Locals say the depth of the lake is about 1 kilometers, it is still a mystery. But the research shows that the maximum depth of the Lake is approximately 34 m (113 ft.) and has a surface area of 2.75 Square KM.

Things to do at Saif ul Malook

There are a lot of things to do at the Saif-Ul-Malook such as camping, boating, fishing, Snow sliding on the glacier, food adventure, horse or pony riding, and much more. It’s easily accessible by jeep or by trekking. It is a great adventure and fun on the way of trekking when you crossing huge glaciers.

Due to the heavy snowfall in winter, the incredible lake is completely frozen. So the best time for tourists starts from June to September. In summer the weather of the lake remains always pleasant. It will be your most memorable trip. It is a great sight to see a variety of views on the top of the mountain.

There are different food stalls, small huts, and shops at the top. The view, the silence, the atmosphere  everything is amazing. It is surrounded by the breathtaking views of mountains- including Malika Parbat, (The highest peak in Kaghan Valley) giant glaciers and greenish-blue crystal clear water reflects the beauty of Saif-ul-Malook.

Story of Saif ul Malook Lake

The classic story of Saif ul Malook Lake is written by Sufi poet Mian Muhammad Bakhsh. It is defined in the form of poetic verses. The story is about a Persian prince named Saif-ul-Malook and fairy princess Badi ul Jamal. They fell in love with a fairy named Badi ul Jamal (Glory of the moon), whom he saw in his dreams and he started his restless journey to find her. One day he met a Darwaish (Holy man), who advised him how he can find her. He told him that to go to the lake but there will be many hurdles to find her. Because she is a fairy and you are a human.

The prince then starts his journey and faced many challenges in the form of a giant and he learned many spiritual lessons on the way. In the end, after praying 40 days consecutively he found her. The fairy and the prince stays in the cave, the same cave still exist.
